1982 "Energy" 2021 remix
"Energy" a project originally directed by Antonio Lai da Teulada has now been re-mastered in video by Clare Ann Matz .
The electronic music introduction celebrates the energy that springs up from the earth with a chorus of solar music instruments, created by Joe Jones, Fluxus composer, to be ultra-sensitive to varying sunlight, thus being varied and vibrant at noon, but silent after dusk, produce the music.
Human voices, singing and reciting lyrics by Charles Matz, add to the ambient sound and electronic-funky music by Italian new-wave duo La Maison.
The energy flowing towards the earth causes terror, because the phenomenon is mysterious.
These natural actions forewarn mechanisms of the large generators of the power station in which energy will be created in large quantities. The technicians struggle to make the generators work above and beyond the force of inertia, succeeding with difficulty, but only after bending and forcing the thrusts of nature.
At the final moment a struggle erupts between the created energy and the technicians who try to control it. This struggle is expressed in a crescendo ending in a black-out.

LIU Brooklyn English Professor Charles Matz's new book, The Joyful Sleepwalkers, came out this past spring and was presented at the Mondolibro bookshop in Belluno, Italy, on August 22, 2014.
The presentation, organized by Valentina Reolon, was sponsored by the Casa dei Beni Comuni and the Mondolibro bookshop. Julia Bisinella (an actor from Belluno but now part of the well-known Kairos Italy Theater in New York City theater scene) and Nanni Dorigo performed scenes from the book. The author, Charles Matz, teacher, poet, and performer, worked with Hallam Tennyson at the BBC London, with Norman Mailer in New York, and with Andrea Zanzotto in Italy, among many others. Matz lived for 20 years in Feltre, a small city near Belluno, where he taught at schools and at the University IULM.
